Every crew has its own keyword, its own attitude, and its own way to win. Pick one, or learn all four. They are free.

And the Neutrals

Not everyone picks a side. Neutral cards are open to any deck and are where most of the Gear lives. They are flexible and reliable, but a little weaker than a crew card doing the same job, so your faction always matters. Build a deck around one crew, then round it out with Neutrals.
